Officer Richard Cahoon was born and raised in Michigan’s Thumb area and has always had a strong commitment to public service. That commitment was shaped during his time serving in the Michigan Army National Guard. After completing his military service, Richard decided to continue serving his community as a law enforcement officer.
Officer Cahoon attended Kirtland Community College’s Regional Police Academy (Class #59), graduating in December 2024. He was then hired by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office where he began his law enforcement career on December 6, 2024, before transferring to the Gerrish Township Police Department on September 8, 2026.
Outside of work, Richard enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly fishing, hunting, and hiking. He is also an avid archery enthusiast and can often be found practicing with his bow and arrows.
Richard has lived in Roscommon County for the past three years and is looking forward to becoming more familiar with the Gerrish Township community, getting to know its residents and business owners, and serving the community he is now proud to be a part of.
