Tuesday Traffic Tidbit – Right of Way Rules

Michigan Vehicle Code 257.649 & 257.650 indicates that a driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right of way to a vehicle that has entered the intersection from a different direction.

At a 4-way stop intersection, if two vehicles approach the intersection at the same time, the driver of the vehicle on the left shall yield the right of way to the driver on the right. If at an intersection that has a traffic signal that is out or not working, the intersection should be treated like an all-way or 4-way stop.

Unless indicated by arrow signals, vehicles making left turns must give the right of way to those going straight across the intersection or those turning right.
