Despite the rain yesterday, 50 people participated in our Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (Gerrish Community Run) that began at 6:00 p.m. at the Gerrish Twp. Municipal Complex and ended at the South Higgins Lake State Park Pavilion. We had participants from the Kirtland Regional Police Academy and Criminal Justice Students, local area Special Olympic Athletes along with many community residents and representatives from the Roscommon County Sheriff Department and the State of Michigan DNR.
This was our second best year since we began hosting a run and we raised over $2,900 for Special Olympics of Michigan. Over half of the funds raised go directly back to our local Special Olympians.
Thank you to Officer Shannon Fick for organizing this event and to the CERT volunteers for assisting with traffic safety. Thank you also to Mike Eva for providing a water station, RAPS Transportation Department for providing a bus to return runners to their vehicles and to Family Fare of Roscommon for the donated hot dogs, chips and water for everyone at the end of the run.
