Over the 4th of July weekend Officers with the Gerrish Township Police department were called to a Gerrish Township road end at Higgins Lake regarding a boat that had been anchored or moored to the bottom lands of Higgins Lake overnight. Officers responded to the location and documented a 1983 17’ foot CrisCraft pleasure boat moored at this location with a large steel pole. Further investigation revealed the boat owner was from the Roscommon area, however the subject who anchored the boat was a 48 year old Brighton, Michigan man. Officers submitted an incident report along with witness statements to the Roscommon County Prosecutors office for review. After review of the incident, Officers received a misdemeanor warrant for the Brighton, Michigan man for the charge of trespassing. The subject was arrested on the charges and later pled guilty to a violation of the Inland Lakes and Streams Act for mooring or affixing to the bottom land without a permit to do so.
