On March 28, 2009 at approximately 4:45 pm two male ice fishermen, 40 years of age began to break through the ice while fishing on Higgins Lake. The fishermen were approximately ½ mile off from the shore near the St. Lawrence Road end. They called 911 for help and then sprawled out on the ice to disperse their weight. Both the Lake Township and the Roscommon Sheriff’s Department’s air boats were deployed with qualified ice rescue personal on board. With a collective effort from local police and firefighters the two fishermen were rescued and brought back to shore safely.
