Hit and Run Pedestrian Accident

Officers with the Gerrish Township Police Department are investigating a Hit and Run Personal Injury Accident that occurred on Monday January 4th 2010 at approximately 12:30pm. Officers were dispatched to a reported pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle while walking down the shoulder of West Higgins Lake Drive near Rose Avenue in Gerrish Township. The suspect vehicle had lost control on the icy roadway and struck the victim who was walking on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle then went up into the snow bank and struck a street sign before re-entering the roadway. The suspect vehicle stopped briefly after the accident and then fled headed West bound on West Higgins Lake Drive towards Lyon Township. The pedestrian had made it to a local business where she called for help. Officers put out an area broadcast (BOL) for the suspect vehicle and responded to the location of the victim. The victim received minor injuries from the accident and was able to give investigating officers a description of the suspect vehicle that struck her. Officers checked all the local area roads and located the suspect vehicle on January 6th, 2010. Officers were able to make contact with the driver of the vehicle who acknowledged being in the accident however unaware they had struck a pedestrian or a street sign. The report is going to be turned over to the Prosecutor’s office with a request for criminal charges.
