Congratulations ACT NOW Citizen of the Year – Barry McGinnis

Thank you to everyone who came out to the ACT NOW 20th Annual Community Picnic & Meeting on Monday July 15th. The event was held at the Gerrish Twp. Park Marina with over 80 people attending including all of the Gerrish Twp. Police Officers and the ACT NOW Executive Board.

A special community presentation took place recognizing Gerrish resident Barry McGinnis for his participation in a rescue effort in which he assisted Gerrish Twp. Police Officers with a kayak accident/near drowning incident on May 28, 2019.

Two subjects had capsized their kayaks in the deep waters of Higgins Lake and were not wearing life jackets. The water temperature at the time was approximately 49 degrees and the air temperature was 60 degrees. Without the swift response and use of his pontoon boat and personal watercraft, the fate of the two adult subjects would not have ended well. The subjects who were suffering from extreme hypothermia were rushed to shore where the Gerrish Twp. EMS personnel and ambulances were waiting. The subjects were treated on scene for quite some time and were released to their grateful family members.

THANK YOU Barry for your unselfish actions in an emergency situation! It is residents like yourself that make our community a great place to live, work and vacation at.
