Basic CERT Class Starting 1/15/2020 – Looking for Volunteers

Are you interested in joining Gerrish Township CERT?

Chief Hill along with other Gerrish Officers and members of the Gerrish CERT team will be running a Basic CERT class beginning January 15, 2020 and running every Wednesday night from 6-9 p.m. for six consecutive weeks. The classes will be held at the Gerrish Twp. Police Department at 3075 E. Higgins Lake Drive, Roscommon, MI.

These classes will train community volunteers to assist local emergency responders to give immediate assistance in the event of a disaster or perform duties such as shelter support, crowd control, traffic and pedestrian safety during large scale community events.

Training is designed to cover:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fire Safety & Extinguishing
  • Patient Triage & Assessment
  • Patient Treatment & Hygiene
  • Light Search & Rescue
  • Team Organization
  • Disaster Psychology & Terrorism
  • Incident Command System
  • Radio Communications

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is an integral part of the Citizen Corps, the grass-roots movement that actively involves everyone in making our communities and our nation safer, stronger and better prepared. All over America, communities have organized Citizen Corps Councils to inspire people to take action and get involved. No matter who you are, we all have a role in hometown preparedness…what role will you play?
